PRINCE2 Exam Prerequisites
The PRINCE2 exam prerequisites consist of two levels the foundation and practitioner as listed below in detail.
Foundation:
There are no specific requirements for the PRINCE2 Foundation course.
Practitioner:
You shall complete the Foundation exam before taking the PRINCE2 Practitioner examination. You also must provide proof of having passed one of the following:
- PRINCE2 5th Edition (Foundation or Practitioner)
- PRINCE2 6th Edition (Foundation)
- Project Management Qualification PMQ *
- Project Professional Qualification PPQ*
- Project Management Professional PMP**
- Project Management Professional PMP®**
- Certified Associate in Project Management CAPM**

PRINCE2 Exam Format
The PRINCE2 exam format encompasses the levels; the foundation level and the practitioner one as shown below in detail.
Foundation Level:
The PRINCE2 foundation level will contain the following:
- Exam validity: Lifetime validity.
- Multiple choice questions.
- 60 questions per paper.
- 33 marks required (out of 60 available) to pass: 55%.
- One hour (60 minutes) duration .
- Closed-book exam.
Practitioner Level:
The PRINCE2 practitioner level will contain the following:
- Exam validity: 3 years.
- Objective testing.
- 68 questions per paper.
- 38 marks or more are required to pass (out of 68 available): approximately 55%.
- Two-and-a-half hours (150 minutes (about 2 and a half hours)) duration, no additional reading time.
- Open book. Candidates are permitted to use the official printed hard copy of the Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2® 2017 Edition.

Yes. All candidates who acquired PeopleCert’s certifications will need to renew them within three years of their original certificate dates.
Please check the examples listed below:
- If certified before 30 June 2020: your certification will be valid until 1 July 2023 to renew your certificate, regardless of the original acquired date.
- If certified after June 2020: your certification(s) shall be renewed within 3 years of the original acquired date.
From 15 January 2023, you have renewal paths available as listed below:
- Retake the same exam: you can renew your certification by re-taking your original exam before the renewal date.
- Take further courses and certifications: you can renew your certification by attending another course and taking an exam within the same product package before the renewal date.
Please note that candidates who do not renew their certifications will still be included on the Successful Candidates Register (SCR) and the Candidate Verification Service (CVS).
However, a note will be added to their record to indicate that their certification needs to be renewed to align with current certification requirements.
